Wow. One of the most unexpected and surprising wines I have tasted in a long time. Maybe ever. This was the first vintage in screwcap for the Hogue Johannisberg Riesling. It drank like a great, dry Aussie Riesling with petrol and lime notes. Somehow the sugar had faded, which seems to make no sense. Can a sweet Riesling age and shed it sweetness? Is it chemically possible?!? I don’t know who I am anymore. But for 8 bucks or less I am starting to think I would be foolish not to buy a case, tuck it away for five years, and make a convert out of the most insufferable of wine snobs.
