As in, “I did not think it was possible to find a bargain Burgundy in the 2005 vintage and I was right to think so.”
Actually, as in, “I found a bargain Burgundy from the 2005 vintage.”
There is so much Burgundy at every price point (including $100+) that is thin, acidic, stemmy, stinky crap. To find one for under twenty bucks that tastes like Pinot Noir and would satisfy anyone looking for a very tasty Pinot Noir, regardless of country of origin. This is it:
2005 Domain Virely–Rougeot Bourgogne Pinot Noir
It’s 18 bucks. It is delicious. I even think it would benefit from another year or two of bottle-age, and at that price, you need to get a case.
The importer, Millesime, should be applauded for being able to offer a Burgundy at this price amidst insane vintage hype and a shitty dollar.
