I can’t remember the last time I drank red wine two days in a row without food being involved, but I’m trying to adapt to the weather. As much as I liked the Alma Negra, which you can read about in my latest post for the Foodista blog, the 2007 Viu Manent Syrah El Olivar Alto is even more impressive. I’ve had a bit of a love affair with this winery for years; it’s hard to beat their regular and reserve offerings, but this single vineyard gemĀ may take the cake. Rich, smooth, and a little bit sappy (which, coincidentally, is how I’d describe my ideal mate), you could do a lot worse with your hard-earned bucks. (Well, in the interest of full disclosure, I received a sample bottle for free. But if you told me to get cash from the ATM and buy a bottle of red wine, this would be close to the top of my list.
Tomorrow: Back to Bubbles! (Lest you think I’ve gone mad.) I’ll be at Purple, knockin’ back a flute of something well-chilled. Probably the Graham Beck Brut from South Africa. Then I will definitely have the Cassagnoles Gros Manseng, a personal favorite of mine. I love esoteric wines!
