Coffee Cupping at Fonté in Seattle

Had the chance to head down to Fonté Micro Coffee Roaster in Seattle’s Georgetown neighborhood to get more acquainted with coffee beyond its live-giving sustenance. I was intrigued by all the parallels between coffee and wine, and I’ll be exploring that further in an upcoming post for Foodista. Big thanks to Steve Smith, Vice President of Coffee (and Master Roaster), for sharing his passion for, and knowledge of, coffee. I can spot a fellow beverage geek from a mile away. (By the way, I think my dream job title is “VP of Coffee.” Though “Master Roaster” is pretty cool, too.)

And since I was down in Georgetown, I had to have lunch. I was going to head to my usual stop, Smarty Pants, for a Ms. Piggy, but tempted fate by checking out a new (to me) place, The Square Knot Diner. I’m a sucker for any place with u-shaped counter seating. And having Thanksgiving in July via a sandwich with (very good) turkey, cranberry sauce, and cream cheese. It’s a sandwich that called for (the) Champagne (of beers).

U-shaped counter seating? Hmmm. Are there mirrors involved? Maybe we need to sit down and discuss this over a drink. GREG

This looks like fun. While I’m a definite wino, I was a coffee-crazed person nearly forever before that. So I get it. I’m also always interested to see little cups of coffee beans at the perfume counters so that you can get the aromas changed round quickly and firmly. I’m wondering if this would work during wine tasting?! As to Thanksgiving in July–how neat. We love grilling a whole bird and saying, “Ya’ll come!” mid-summer. (Whole different wine line-up for summer turkey.)

      Alyce,

I love the idea of grilling a whole bird in July. Now that’s Thanksgiving in July done in style!

      Cheers,

      Jameson
