German Riesling: Head to Muller Time

Posted on: May 4th, 2004 by

Well, I felt a little bad about my dismissing of German Rieslings, so I thought I would try one. I specifically got one labeled “Trocken”….dry. It was a mega-famous producer from the Pfaltz, (Weingut) Muller-Catoir. 2000. It had mind-blowing acidity; bracing, lively…wow. And just a tiny, little kiss of sweetness at the end.

Even for someone like myself, who loves white wines w/ crazy acidity, I think it needs a few more years. This wine, because of its acidity, could last decades. But I think if you gave it at least two more years, you would be heading towards the perfect balance.
