I went to Green Zebra, the new veggie place opened by the guy from Spring; it’s on 1400ish Chicago. The food was excellent. Very clean, pristine, fresh, flavorful (and I’m sure costly) vegetables. They got their liquor license, but told me there was a 20 buck corkage fee, which did not seem so bad considering the wine I was bringing and the price I paid. Yes, the ultimate veggie (and not pasta and red sauce veggie…fucking artichokes and shit.) wine……..The 96 Prager Gruner Veltliner. Awesome with all non-tomato veggie dishes. Great with a dandelion green (bitter, bitter, lovely) salad w/ shaved Parmesean-Reggiano. And the one fish dish they have, halibut wrapped in thinly sliced white asparagus, was perfect. The wine developed so much over the hour we drank it…by the end it was tasting great with my trio of crème brulees. Outstanding.
Oh, and because we had to wait for 10 minutes (no biggie…we drank Processo at the bar), and when they showed us to our table it was not yet ready, they waived the corkage fee.
How sweet it is.
