Celery juice. Probably not the sexiest drink. How do you jazz it up? Add booze, naturally. I had a delightful brunch at Northern Spy in the East Village, including this drink:
Celery Tonic
Cocchi Americano, Dolin dry vermouth, celery juice, lemon
Uh, yum! I must also mention the food is great. Whoever is cooking eggs there is the lord of yolks. Perfectly runny. If you want to experience said brunch mastery, order this:
White Bean Toast
White bean spread, mixed greens, bacon, crispy fried eggs
Also experienced this week? Cocktails at Death & Co. A unique system to get a seat. The doorperson (who was exceedingly charming and from Bellingham, WA) takes your name and phone number and texts you when your seat is ready. You have ten minutes to get back before they give it away. (Plenty of time to run over to Sophie’s for a quick can of Modelo.)
And one of my roommates was raving about Five Tacos so I went there today for an awe-inspiring burrito.
The Devil’s Sauce came with a warning from the guy behind the counter: “Be careful.” I applied judiciously. Like the old advertising slogan, a little dab’ll do ya. The habañero jerk was a delightful addition as well.
Can’t forget my great meal at Porsena; perfectly cooked and seasoned pasta. Additionally, I tried a sandwich at their place across the street, Porchetta. (Shockingly I did did not have the porchetta but the Lebanese chicken sandwich and some braised greens.) I endured a long wait for an excellent coffee at teeny tiny Abraço. There is an excellent Fight Fight for Your Right to Party-era MCA mural right next door:
Post-burrito I stopped by Ten Degrees for afternoon beers in the company of a friendly bartender and a lively cast of characters emerging from their Friday night fogs. Note: They have a 2-4-1 happy hour, which is totally insane(ly awesome).
Finally, strolled home through Tompkins Square Park.
