It’s Rose Time, Damnit!!!

I wish I was computer-savvy enough to know how to get an accent mark over the “e” in rose, but screw it.

It’s Feburary, it’s dreary, it’s…time to drink some pink!!!

The best part about drinking roses now is that everyone is panicking because they still have a lot of 2005’s left to sell through, so prices are great. And, strangely enough, there are a lot of roses that are just better with a year of bottle age. Here are two great ones:

2005 Domaine du Château de Puligny-Montrachet Bourgogne Rosé de Pinot Noir

(Jesus, what a mouthful.)

Etienne de Montille makes the wines here; his 2004 Bourgogne Rouge is the best I have ever had. This is the kind of rose you could drink by the gallon and would be awesome with cold cuts, cold fried chicken and olive-flecked potato salad, etc.

2005 Les Pallieres “Au Petit Bonheur”

Rose from a Gigondas producer. Classic pink; lean and austere in a great way.

Incidentally, both wines have a great label.

For those who don’t have the stones to drink pink, I would suggest trying what I call “The Red Wine Drinker’s Roses.” These dark roses are are usually a big bolder and showy. For a great one under ten bucks I suggest The Wolftrap from South Africa.

  1. Next time I’m in SEA let’s get together for a bottle of the pink stuff.

Then afterwards we can watch Dawson’s Creek and braid each other’s hair.

Dawson’s Creek?!? That hasn’t been on in years. How about Veronica Mars?

No more smarmy comments about pink wines! You’ll be drinking those words soon enough!

Cool site. I found your link via a comment on my site about Baguette Box. I’m adding you to our blog roll–we need more wine inspiration.

    Cheers!
    Geoff.

PS: option/alt + e will get you that rosé accent.
