Legendary Wines

Got a chance thanks to two of my colleagues having birthdays on the same day to drink two memorable wines

1983 Cheval Blanc
2001 Dagueneau Silex

I haven’t really had an older Bordeaux let alone an older Cheval Blanc. The 1982 is a legendary vintage, but this was no slouch. Probably right at its peak; had a very brown color but still some nice acidity and a lot of earthiness, pencil lead flavors. Maybe even a little mushroom-y.

But the Silex was the real winner. A barrel-aged Sauvignon Blanc from Pouilly-Fume, this had a mind-blowing nose and finish. A definite infant, I would love to drink this wine with about 5 more years of bottle age. And I have to post a photo of Didier; what a nut.

I drank a 1999 Pur Sang a couple of months ago and had that same reaction.. I wonder when it is really ready to go.
