More Verget

I have raved about the purity of the 2004 Verget Pouilly Fuisse. I tried one of his higher-end, barrel-aged PFs and it was awesome. One of the looooongest finishes on a white I have had in a while. Tasted the next day, warm, and the oak had really integrated and was very subtle and elegant. I’d hide this one in the cellar for 2 or 3 years. I’m going to buy two and do just that! Hooray!

Here’s some info from the North Berkeley Imports website:

2004 Verget Pouilly Fuissé “Terroir de Puys Les Combes” V. V.

Here’s a sharp Vergisson mind with a Pouilly body—seashells and slate mixed with toasty, buttery notes and wildflowers and a fat, rich mouth of butter and pepper. This late-harvested wine was aged in 100% barrique with 30% new wood. The terroir is impressive: good northern exposure (in a “comb” or bowl shaped like an amphitheatre, in Pouilly) with great soil composition and vines planted in 1917!
