Pinotage, Mea Culpa!

Posted on: April 22nd, 2007 by

After being eviscerated by The Pinotage Police for suggesting that 100% Pinotages were nothing more than a curiosity, I took it upon myself to try one above the ten dollar mark. And I’m glad I did!

The Wildekrans Pinotage has bold, rich fruit that would please anyone from the world of California to Aussie wine. Then it has that smoky, savory Pinotage character.
And, once again, although weighing in at 14.5% booze, it is not flabby and has nice acidity. This would be great with a nicely-charred steak. It’s only $15, too! I look forward to trying the higher-end Pinotages soon.

  1. Love “Pinotage Police”, but “eviscerated”? ‘To remove the entrails of; disembowel’???

Didn’t mean to tear out your guts.

Glad you took my suggestion to try some decent Pinotages and that you enjoyed Wildekrans. Note it is an estate wine — a wine grown, made and bottled on the farm, not an anonymous cheap shippers brand.

Have you tried any California Pinotages?
