For Thanksgiving I never bust out the trophy wines. First, I don’t have any. Second, I can’t afford them. Third, when you are having dinner with lots of people, you might turn your head and all of a sudden your cousin(s) have drained the bottle. I like to focus on $15ish bottles; a little more than I would spend for everyday wines. A couple wines, both from Mulderbosch in South Africa, really impressed:
2008 Rosé: 100% Cabernet; now with a screw cap. Dry and delicious, with a touch of the herbaciousness you get from SA Cab.
2007 Chenin Blanc: This was a real surprise; I had not had this wine in a while. Dry, a bit rich, with wonderful ginger spice. Light oak and 8% Sauv Blanc. Easily the best under $20 Chenin in the entire world of wine.
I also have to say I am completely charmed by the (textured) label. They look great on a holiday table and you have the nice red and green labels. You still have time to make these your Christmas wines! And both would be fantastic with ham.
Hey, that’s awesome! I think I’m going to have to get me and sister some Chenin Blanc for Xmas dinner. I hope my wine place has them.
Miss you!
