I spent two years working at Seattle’s Bottlehouse and there are many wonderful things I can say about this charming wine bar. But most germane to this blog post and episode of my Wine Without Worry podcast is the seriousness shown for cheese. They have a dang cheesemonger there! And while Bottlehouse does a great job of making your cheese-centric decisions easy by pairing them with the wine(s) you’ve got in front of you, what happens when you’re at home? On your own, drifting in a sea of indecision? Is there a wine that’s a silver bullet when it comes to cheese? Well, we’re not talking about bringing down werewolves nor Coors Light. Maybe more like a magic bullet. No, no. Enough with this bullet stuff.
Anyway, YES, there is a wine that, hands-down, is going to work best with an assortment of cheeses. Have a listen to this podcast episode recorded during a bustling Saturday afternoon at Bottlehouse with co-owner Henri Schock. Naturally, we have a trio of cheeses set in front of us. And meet Eric, who steps out of the kitchen to expertly explain each one tableside. (Good news: every cheese-ordering guest is privy to this 411.)
Henri and I also talk about trends in wine, what’s exciting in the Pacific Northwest, and how Instagram and Bottlehouse compliment each other. Say cheese:
Nice little teaser there! I will have to have a listen when I get back home, but I am going to go with an unoaked Chardonnay….
Jeff,
I will neither confirm nor deny the accuracy of your guess.
Jameson
Should have known. I was close, though….
