2000 Latour Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru
I got a wicked deal on this…only 40 bucks. It blew me away. Incredible richness, elegance…aroma/flavor of caramel, toffee, creme brulee. The finish lasted forever. Anyone who says white wines cannot be powerful, you must have a Corton-Charlemagne. I must quote from The Wine Bible by Karen MacNeil, writing about Corton-Charlemagne (from a different producer):
“Possibly the most sought-after white Burgundy of all, Corton-Charlemagne is the world’s greatest chardonnay. The centuries-old vineyard is thought to have been owned in the late 700s by Charlemagne himself….Corton-Charlemagne is a wine that ought to be mind-blowing, and it is….[It] is…utterly refined, and yet profoundly sensual. White wine doesn’t get more dream-like, more poetic, more ethereal than this.”
Well said.
