The Saint Cosme CDR of Italy

I was kinda wondering when I would come across another age-worthy, under $15 red that I would want to buy in bulk for the cellar. No longer! It’s the 2003 Altesino Rosso di Montalcino.

Altesino makes Brunellos that are expensive and hard as nails; you need to wait at least ten years before touching them. The Rosso, on the other hand, is reasonably priced and you would not be committing infanticide by drinking it now. It has definite aging potential as well; go buy a case.

I was also impressed that for a wine from the scorching 2003 vintage it wasn’t pruney, boozy, or overblown. A fantastic steak wine.
