Three Great Whites

2004 Deiss Riesling Beblenheim

Criminally underpriced Alsatian Riesling. Less than $25 a bottle! Incredible purity and length. It’s been a while since I was wowed by an Alsatian wine.

2004 Verget Pouilly-Fuisse Clos du Martelet “Terroir de Vergisson”

Another Verget white with a very long name. A bird of a different feather from the Old Vines PF; a lot more fruit and power. Awesome. Everything I loved about the Deiss, ditto that here.

The theme here would be that I like purity in my whites. Everything is balanced and integrated; these are truly elegant wines.

And in the 1 liter chug-a-lug jug category:

2004 Hofer Gruner Veltliner

Adorable packaging: squat 1 liter green jug topped with a bottle cap and a great label. Crisp, clean, dry, with a little bit of a spicy kick on the finish. 1 liter of this for under 10 bucks; by far one of the world’s great wine values.
