Though not familiar with Vin de Savoie rosé, a wine hailing from the eastern edge of France touching Switzerland and Italy, I’m going to give any dry, pink wine from France a fair shake (and sip) when set in front of me. Especially when I’m at Bar Ferd’nand in the spacious and impressive Melrose Market, located in my Capitol Hill neighborhood of Seattle. This would not be the first time I’ve enjoyed a fine and refreshing glass of wine in the pre-dark hours of the day there, but just as memorable and pleasurable.
Eugene Carrel Vin de Savoie Rosé
So what’s this 2011 Vin de Savoie Rosé from producer Eugene Carrel all about? It’s a blend of 80% Gamay and 20% Mondeuse, the latter being a grape traditional to the region. It’s a very easy-drinking and fruity rosé; a nice break from my penchant for more austere pink wines. Fruity, however, does not mean sweet.
Rosé in the afternoon? Yes, please.
