I was speaking with the charming owner at one of my favorite wine shops about writing wine descriptors. This all started when I poured a 2004 Dutton-Goldfield Pinot Noir (RRV), and just told her, “This wine makes me happy.” It did, and it still does. It’s a Pinot Noir with this incredible kind of star-anise/nutmeg kind of thing going on. It has great acidity, not hot or boozy, and is so elegant and pretty. In fact, it had been open for 24 hours and was better and better and better. It’s interesting how a wine does not have to be some tannic beast to show good or better the next day.

So this is about a $35 Pinot. And I polished it off. Then moved onto the leftovers, a 2004 Coteaux du Tricastin. Domaine Des Rozets. It’s a grenache/syrah with a pinch of cinsault. What a chugger! I love the grenache in wines like this! This is about a 8 dollar wine.

But it is (also) making me happy.
