If you are not familiar with the Melon de Bourgogne grape, I am excited to announce the publication of my ebook in the Beginners Guide to Wine series. Thanks to 101 Publishing, you can learn about the grape that makes one of my all-time favorite white wines, Muscadet. I really want to stress that this was written in a welcoming and accessible style and is truly for beginners. I was fortunate enough to work with a editor who made sure that I was extremely clear, concise, and explained all the terms I used in a manner that someone curious about wine, but by no means an expert, could understand.

And though the story of Melon de Bourgogne is mostly the story of Muscadet, I include some information about current efforts in Washington and Oregon to make wines from this grape.

Along with thoughts about food pairings, I include the history of the grape from the 17th Century to the present, as well as some general wine knowledge about glassware, serving temperature, and enjoying wine in a variety of circumstances. This ebook is $2.99; here is a link to where you can buy it on Amazon:

The photos above and below were taken at Château de L’Oiselinière in the Muscadet-producing region near Nantes, France, on a trip I look last year with the Loire Valley Wine Bureau. I developed a keen appreciation of how wine made from Melon de Bourgogne could be great with a variety of food beyond the justifiably famous pairing with oysters.

The reason their is a sculpture of a bird in front of the Chateau is because the property is a bird sanctuary as well. (And this was pre-Portlandia putting a bird on it.)

Finally, here’s a link to all the books in the series, if my book about Melon de Bourgogne has you thirsty:

Oops. Can I buy it for i-Pad? Please advise. GREG at sippity sup dot com

  3. You might consider this blasphemous, but Muscadet is my go-to wine to mix with Crème de Cassis for a Kir (Aligoté has become far too expensive!).
