Now I can cross “sweet sparkling Torrontes” off my list of wines to try. I’ve been a fan of this aromatic grape that flourishes in Argentina, chiefly in its dry and still form. Torrontes remind me of Viognier, which can be gorgeously perfumed, but this Argentine grape makes for a lighter-style white wine. I don’t know if it’s because Valentine’s Day is in the air, but Torrontes has a floral quality to it that got me thinking about beautiful white roses. There’s also a lot of peachy-sweet aromas as well.

sweet sparkling torrontesI always thought Torrontes would make a lovely dessert wine, and Santa Julia crafts a late harvest wine with this grape, the Reserva Tardio, that confirmed my suspicions. So when I strolled into Trader Joe’s and saw a sweet sparkling Torrontes, I knew I had to have it. Sometimes I’ve found some real gems there and, if someone hadn’t already done it, it would be a fun concept to create a blog reviewing their exclusive offerings.

With the rise in popularity of sweet wines, especially fizzy Moscatos, this sparkling Torrontes offers a delightfully unique way to celebrate Valentine’s day, Sunday brunch, or a plateful of sugar cookies.
