Initially I had a more provocative title for pushing the notion that pairing old wines with food is…perhaps counterproductive. But in my latest article for VinePair, the idea thankfully matured like a…well, you know what. I ended up getting my impertinence tempered by three wine experts:
- Heinz Frishengruber, managing winemaker/technical director at Domäne Wachau (Austria)
- Raffaella Guidi Federzoni, export manager at Fattoria dei Barbi
- June Rodil, MS, partner at Goodnight Hospitality (Houston)
The trio get philosophical, humorous, and practical about enjoying older wines sans food. They also give tips on how to fruitfully experience a treasured bottle with food, whether at home or a restaurant. Have a read. (The article is accompanied by a cool animated illustration, too!)
