Two of My Favorite Reasonably Priced Italian Wines

Had dinner at La Spiga on Thursday and thoroughly enjoyed selecting two fantastic wines: Abbazia di Novacella Kerner and the Scavino Vino Da Tavola Rosso. Wow, reading over those names makes me realize that these are not the easiest of wines to pick from a list and order with confidence if you lack experience (aka [More]

Asparagus and Wine: Together Forever

AsparagusOriginally uploaded by jamesonf One of the worst “truths” about food and wine pairings is that asparagus does not go well with wine. This is completely wrong! Here is a list of wines I would drink with asparagus: Sparkling Wine (Prosecco, Cremant, Champagne) Chenin Blanc (Loire Valley or South Africa) Riesling (dry from Australia or [More]

Tannat? Why Not?

ColombelleOriginally uploaded by jamesonf I love a good back label. The Colombelle white (Ugni Blanc/Colombard) has been one of my all-time favorite whites for years. I love that chugger from Gascogny! But don’t sleep on the red. What makes it unique is that it’s mostly Tannat, which makes wines that are hard as nails; real [More]

Wines I Tasted Yesterday

A quick rundown: 2009 Southern Right Sauvignon Blanc (South Africa): Sancerre meets (a touch of) New Zealand. 2009 Zuccardi Serie ‘A’ Torrontes (Argentina): Less soapy and perfumed than most Torrontes. My Rosé Selection

My Rosé SelectionOriginally uploaded by jamesonf Here are the rosés I am currently loving (and selling). The La Bastide Blanche Bandol is my favorite right now. Yes, Another Box Wine

La Vieille Ferme 3LOriginally uploaded by jamesonf Like the MAN in a Box Chenin/Blanc Viognier, the La Vieille Ferme Red is about 8 bucks a (glass) bottle or, better yet, works out to 5 bucks a bottle when you buy it in a 3 Liter box. Wines from Cotes du Ventoux are a dead ringer [More]
